Celebrity Supermums

There are still months to go before Beyonce gives birth to Bub-Z, but she's already declared that she won't be taking ANY maternity leave, saying, "It is important that I don't look at this as like an illness. I am not sick." We hear you, Bey, but the point of maternity leave is so you can spend precious hours with your newborn baby and catch up on much needed sleep!

Beyonce also said that she is sure she'll have enough energy to care for her baby and continue working. "When you are excited about something, you don't have to think about your energy," she told Associated Press. "It is natural and comes from adrenaline." Is she just being naïve, or is Beyonce part of a new breed of supermum celebrities?

January Jones was back on set of Mad Men less than a month after giving birth to her son. And it's not like it's a show where she could put on medical scrubs or hide behind a counter; her character Betty Draper always looks polished and perfectly tailored. The actress's baby, Xander, was born on 13 September, just over a month ago. We're exhausted just thinking about those long hours on set...

Miranda Kerr felt the urge to go back to work just eight weeks after her baby was born. The supermodel was on the catwalk during Paris Fashion Week in March when Flynn, her son with Orlando Bloom, was two months old. But at least she got to wear a dress... just one month later, she was back modelling bikinis (with no post-baby bulge to be seen) at a photo shoot in Malibu. And since then she's posed naked for Harper's Bazaar magazine and the editor of the mag revealed in the issue that the model mum was still breastfeeding during the photo shoot.

Heidi Klum (left) and Jennifer Lopez (right) are celebrity supermums!

Jennifer Lopez ran a triathlon just seven months after having her twins, Max and Emme. She said her motivation was to make her babies proud of her, adding that she felt like a "beached whale" while she was pregnant. Jen said, "I made the decision when I was eight months pregnant to do the triathlon after I had the babies. I wanted to know I was the same person as before I had them. I wanted to be that person more than ever for my babies. I wanted them to be proud of me." We're pretty sure the twins were too deep in milk comas to notice their over-achieving mom had been running, swimming and cycling for the last two hours, 23 minutes and 38 seconds.

Everything Heidi Klum does is super... first she was a supermodel and now she's a supermum. With four children, she's still one of the world's hottest women and one of Victoria Secret's famous underwear models. She was back on the runway for Victoria Secret, in skimpies, two months after her son Henry was born and she went one better a couple of years later and was back on the catwalk just one month after her fourth child, Lou, arrived.

Victoria Beckham(Rex)

Victoria Beckham had her daughter, Harper Seven, in July but even after four babies have stretched Posh's slim frame to the max, she still managed to bounce back to a rumoured size zero a few months after the birth. She was also straight back to work and unveilled a range of clothes at New York fashion week recently and coordinated her baby's outfit with her own 7-inch Christian Louboutin heels on a shopping trip.
Last year, Dannii Minogue was back mentoring her acts on X Factor and appearing on the live shows week after week when her son Ethan was just a few months old. Aside from the time the show took up, it was also very stressful for the new mum as she had to face the barrage of negative press about her outfits, her standoffish relationship with Cheryl and her squabbles with Simon and Louis.
Phew! We need a rest after thinking how hard these celebrity supermums work. But we suspect that they all have dozens of minions waiting in the wings, doing the midnight feeds and the dirty nappy changes so that the new mums can concentrate on getting spray tans and getting their roots touched up so they look back to their best as they head out to work.

Let's face it - if we had a multi-million pound fortune and could afford pay for a full-time nanny for our kids, we'd consider it money well spent. Now, we're off for that lie-down...
